The Journey Begins

Jadavpur University has today established itself as an internationally acclaimed university committed towards advanced study and research. It offers a vast repertoire of transformational courses, employs the best minds in its faculty and produces some of the greatest talent that propel organizations in and beyond India. It was the result of the efforts of these accomplished individuals that the Alumni Association in Hyderabad was born in the mid 1970s. The aim of the organization – to ensure that the knowledge, character and relations developed within the ramparts of one of the most respected colleges in the country do not fade away amid the monotony of everyday life.

The family of members in the group kindled the Jadavpur spirit through regular social gatherings. However it was in 1977 that this spark was first carried out to the community at large. The states of Andhra Pradesh & West Bengal were ravaged by severe floods and many were rendered homeless. The Hyderabad JU alumni association which was formed a few years ago by some young JU educated professionals from BHEL, IDPL and ECIL, rose gallantly to the need of the hour and organized a fund raiser through a musical nite by the renowed singer Mr. Manna Dey. Donations poured in; the contribution of the association to the Chief Minister's relief fund not only helped provide for the many flood afected families but also equipped the alumni with a mission – to serve and help the needy. A similar event organized with Pandit Ravi Shanker assissted in fostering this objective further. Unfortunately the rigors of professional life became crucial and the activities of the association were jeopardised due to the transfer of key office bearers.

Every new begining comes from some other begining's end. The flame ignited by the initial members of the association endured within later alumni who came into the city and revived the organization with fresh vigor. The executive body formed now was more homogeneous with participation from both general and technical disciplines of the university. More frequent and consequential programs were executed by the group as can be seen from the list below. The association has been registered in Andhra Pradesh recently and the link with the parent body is being established. The memoranda and the rules and regulations have been derived in accordance with those followed by the parent body with minor local variations.  Most of the office bearers are renowned technocrats with national recognition in defense and public/private sectors. Under the able guidance of our President, Secretary and the Executive Committe, we hope to carry forward the mission to contribute our bit to the academic and cultural community.
