The journey of the J U Alumni Association, Hyderabad started in the mid 1970’s.
-
In 1977, the first mega event was organized by the association --- a musical nite by Manna Dey and team. The objective was to raise funds for flood-affected area of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. The collection from ticket -sale was donated to the Chief Minister relief Fund.
-
The next major event was a musical performance by Pt. Ravishankar for a similar cause.
-
The activities of the association thinned down for almost two decades due to transfer and shortage of key office bearers from Hyderabad and lack of threads left to sustain the interest.
-
After revival in 2005, the Alumni Association arranged platforms to showcase traditional art and culture. Kabi Sammelan, Sokale Soumitra and Baul Sangeet are glimpses of such endeavour.
-
Student welfare activity has been initiated with the formation of welfare fund, which is primarily by voluntary donations from well wishers and members. Scholarship to meritorious students in Jadavpur University and in other Institutions are a concerted attempt to support and sustain budding talents. With the blessings of the Almighty we hope to carry forward our mission of helping the needy students of the university and other institutions, however humble and meager they appear to be.
-
There is a sincere drive to induct young alumnus in the body to sustain and proliferate the zeal and enthusiasm in the affairs of the association. The first outcome of a collective effort was a journey with Scientific Fraternity on August 29, 2009 at the IICT conference hall. As a small step towards generating awareness amongst school students, Hyderabad chapter of Jadavpur University Alumni Association organised a one-day seminar on “Popular Science”. Eminent scientists with chequered background of scientific achievements, addressed the students and also interacted with them during the scientific session. This was followed by a “Science Quiz Contest”.
We do hope that more such events will be possible in future with a wider participation so that the commitment of the members of the Association become visible to the society at large.
We solicit all our patrons and well- wishers to support our sustaining effort for noble cause, by way of insertion of advertisements in souvenir, sponsorships and donations.
